Kirby weighs about 2 kg (4.4 lb) by our estimate. Nintendo and HAL Laboratory have never given a weight: an early HAL note says it is unknown because it changes so much before and after a meal. The official number is his height, about 20 cm (8 in), and a ball that size filled with water would weigh 4.2 kg.

Where the 2 kg comes from
There is no official weight. A 1993 HAL Laboratory document about Kirby, later printed in the 20th Anniversary Kirby Pupupu Encyclopedia (2012), lists him as about 20 cm in size and says his weight is unknown because it changes a lot before and after a meal. Nintendo’s Japanese online magazine ran a profile in March 2000 with the same answer: size about 20 cm, weight unknown.
The height, at least, is solid. Kirby’s Super Smash Bros. description calls him “the 8-inch high Kirby”, and the Kirby Portal, Canvas Curse’s jump game (measured in centimeters) and creator Masahiro Sakurai all agree on about 20 cm. A sphere 20 cm across holds about 4.2 liters, so if Kirby were a solid ball of something as dense as water or flesh, he would weigh about 4.2 kg.
But Kirby is not a solid ball. The 2000 profile describes him as squishy and soft, with a pink body that bounces like a ball, director Shinya Kumazaki has compared him to a rubber ball, and Sakurai once said Kirby has no bones. He also fills himself with air to fly. So we took about half the water-ball figure: 2 kg. Treat it as a ballpark, not a measurement.
A lightweight in Smash Bros.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Kirby’s weight value is 79. That is not kilograms or pounds: it sets how far attacks knock a fighter back. He shares 79th to 83rd place of 89 with Pikachu, Mewtwo, Olimar and Sephiroth, and only six fighters are lighter, down to Pichu at 62. Meta Knight is 80, King Dedede 127, and Bowser tops the list at 135.
His light weight has been part of his Smash character since the start. A Melee trophy notes that it makes him easy to launch, and that puffing up to fly lets him recover from far away. His value has stayed in the same range: 70 in Melee (74 in the PAL version), 78 in Brawl and 79 in Smash 4 after a patch.
Heavy forms: Stone Kirby and 2 Ton Kirby
Kirby can make himself very heavy on purpose. The Stone ability turns him into a solid block that sinks in water, pounds stakes into the ground and crushes enemies he lands on. In Kirby Super Star and Return to Dream Land, one of its random shapes is a weight marked 8t, and in Super Smash Bros., from Melee onward, he can become a weight marked 100 tons.
Kirby’s Epic Yarn has a similar move: pressing down in midair turns yarn Kirby into a weight that drops fast and breaks blocks. Nintendo’s promotional site called it “2 Ton Kirby”. None of these are his real weight, of course, just the numbers the games paint on the objects he becomes.
About 4.4 lb, which is our estimate of 2 kg. No official figure exists, so any number you see for Kirby is an estimate.
How tall is Kirby?
About 20 cm, or 8 inches. HAL Laboratory first wrote it down in 1993, and Super Smash Bros., the Kirby Portal and Masahiro Sakurai have repeated it since.
Has Nintendo ever said how much Kirby weighs?
No. HAL’s own early notes say his weight is unknown because it changes so much before and after he eats, and Nintendo’s 2000 Kirby profile also lists it as unknown.
What is Kirby’s weight in Smash Ultimate?
79. It is a knockback value rather than a real weight, and it makes Kirby one of the lighter fighters: only six of the 89 are lighter, with Pichu the lightest at 62.
Who is heavier, Kirby or King Dedede?
King Dedede, by a long way. Neither has an official weight, but in Smash Ultimate Dedede’s value is 127 against Kirby’s 79, and he is always drawn far bigger than Kirby.
