A modern smartphone weighs about 200 g (7 oz), and current models range from about 165 to 255 g. Apple’s line-up runs from the 165 g iPhone Air to the 249 g iPhone 18 Pro Max and the 254 g foldable iPhone Duo. Samsung’s Galaxy S26 weighs 167 g and the S26 Ultra 214 g.

How much do phones weigh now?
Apple’s current iPhones span almost 90 g. The iPhone Air weighs 165 g (5.82 oz), the iPhone 17 177 g, the iPhone 18 Pro 211 g and the iPhone 18 Pro Max 249 g (8.78 oz). Samsung’s 2026 Galaxy S26 family is similar: 167 g for the S26, 190 g for the S26+ and 214 g for the S26 Ultra.
Put together, a typical flagship phone weighs about 200 g, which is why we use that number in the game. These are the makers’ figures for the phone alone, without a case or charger.
Why phones got heavier
The first iPhone, in 2007, weighed 135 g (4.8 oz) with a 3.5 in screen, and the iPhone 5s of 2013 was lighter still at 112 g. Since then screens and batteries have grown, and weight has followed. The iPhone 14 Pro Max reached 240 g, and the 18 Pro Max is 249 g.
Samsung’s range shows the trade-off clearly. The S26 has a 6.3 in screen and a 4,300 mAh battery and weighs 167 g. The S26 Ultra has a 6.9 in screen and a 5,000 mAh battery and weighs 214 g, almost 50 g more.
Thin phones and folding phones
Phone makers have started to push in both directions. The iPhone Air is just 5.64 mm thick and weighs 165 g, among the lightest iPhones Apple currently sells. At the other end, the iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable, opens like a book into a 7.6 in screen and weighs 254 g (8.96 oz), the heaviest iPhone yet.
