Thanos weighs 985 lb, about 447 kg, according to Marvel’s official character profile, which lists the Mad Titan of the comics at 6 ft 7 in (2.01 m). That figure is for the comic book Thanos. The movie version, an 8 ft CGI character played by Josh Brolin, has never been given an official weight.
Marvel’s own character page for Thanos lists his height as 6 ft 7 in and his weight as 985 lbs. The same stats appear in DK’s Marvel Avengers: The Ultimate Character Guide, which the Marvel Database cites for its numbers. Converted, 985 lb is 447 kg, the weight we use in the game.
Thanos first got a handbook entry in The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe #14 (1984), the second part of “The Book of the Dead”, because he was dead in the comics at the time. That edition already gave him his 6 ft 7 in height, and he was covered again in the Deluxe Edition’s Book of the Dead in 1987.
Why so heavy for 6 ft 7 in?
A heavily muscled human of the same height might weigh around 130 kg (290 lb), so Thanos is roughly 3.5 times as heavy as he looks. Marvel has never explained the number. He is an Eternal from Saturn’s moon Titan, born with the Deviant Syndrome that gives him his misshapen look and purple skin, and later comics say his abilities were boosted with bionic implants.
He is not the only one. Marvel gives several of its superhumans weights far beyond their size: Thor is listed at 6 ft 6 in and 640 lb, and the Hulk at 7 ft 6 in and 1,150 lb on Marvel’s site.
How big is the movie Thanos?
In Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), Thanos is a performance capture character. Around 300 artists at Digital Domain, led by VFX supervisor Kelly Port, turned the 5 ft 10 in Josh Brolin into an eight foot villain, as the Motion Picture Association’s interview with Port puts it. Fan sites often quote 8 ft 3 in, but we found no official source for that.
No weight has been published for the MCU Thanos, so here is our estimate. Scaling a body up from 6 ft 7 in to 8 ft while keeping its shape multiplies its weight by about 1.8. If he keeps the comics’ density, that gives roughly 800 kg (1,760 lb). If he is built like a very large human instead, it comes to around 230 kg (510 lb). Treat both as rough guides.
In the comics, Marvel lists him at 6 ft 7 in (2.01 m). In the MCU films he stands about 8 ft (2.4 m), much taller than Josh Brolin, who is 5 ft 10 in.
How much does Thanos weigh in the MCU?
Marvel Studios has never given a weight. Scaling the comics figure up to his 8 ft movie height gives about 800 kg, while a human build at that size would be closer to 230 kg.
Is Thanos heavier than the Hulk?
No, but he comes close. Marvel lists the Hulk at 1,150 lb (an older handbook said 1,040 lb), against 985 lb for Thanos. Both are far heavier than Thor at 640 lb.
Why does Thanos weigh so much?
Marvel does not say. He is an Eternal born with the Deviant Syndrome, with superhuman strength and durability, and his official weight is about three and a half times what a muscular human of his height would weigh.
Who plays Thanos in the Marvel movies?
Josh Brolin, through performance capture, from Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) to Avengers: Endgame (2019). Damion Poitier played him in the mid-credits scene of The Avengers (2012).
