The Blue-Eyes White Dragon weighs about 10 tonnes (roughly 22,000 lb) by our estimate. Neither the anime nor the card game gives it a weight: its 3000 ATK and 2500 DEF are battle stats, not mass. We pictured a slim, 20 m dragon with a light, bird-like build. A chunkier or bigger reading would weigh several times more.

Where the 10 tonnes comes from
There is no official weight. The card lists Level 8, 3000 ATK and 2500 DEF, and its text only calls it a legendary dragon and an engine of destruction. The anime never measures it either, and its size changes from scene to scene. In most duels it towers several storeys over Kaiba, so we read it as about 20 m from snout to tail.
To get a weight, we split that 20 m into simple shapes: a 2 m head, a 4.5 m neck about 0.6 m thick, a 5 m body about 1.5 m thick and an 8.5 m tail that averages 0.5 m. With the legs, wing bones and membranes, that adds up to about 13 m³. Most animals are close to the density of water, which would give about 13 tonnes, but a flier needs air sacs and hollow bones. At a bird-like 730 kg per m³ (the same density we used for Smaug), 13.3 m³ × 730 kg/m³ ≈ 9.7 tonnes, which we round to 10.
Treat 10 t as a ballpark, not a measurement. The two biggest unknowns are how big it really is and how bulky its body is, and the next section shows how far each one moves the answer.
The low and high estimates
Size matters most, because weight grows with the cube of length. A Blue-Eyes a quarter shorter, at 15 m, keeps only 0.75 × 0.75 × 0.75 ≈ 42% of the weight, about 4.2 tonnes. One a quarter longer, at 25 m, nearly doubles it to about 19.5 tonnes.
Build matters too. Our Smaug estimate scaled up a saltwater crocodile, about 6 m long and 1 tonne. Do the same here and 20 m is 3.33 times longer, 3.33 cubed is about 37, so a crocodile-shaped Blue-Eyes would weigh about 37 tonnes. That is too heavy for this dragon, which has a long thin neck, a narrow chest and a whip of a tail rather than a crocodile’s heavy trunk.
At the other extreme, the giant pterosaur Quetzalcoatlus had a wingspan of 10 to 11 m and weighed about 200 to 250 kg. Scale it to a 20 m wingspan, roughly what Blue-Eyes shows with its wings spread, and you get only about 1.2 to 2 tonnes. But a pterosaur is almost all wing, with a small body, and Blue-Eyes is far more solid than that.
Hologram, spirit and private jet
In the anime’s modern duels, Blue-Eyes is not flesh at all. It is a Solid Vision hologram, projected from a microchip in the card by a Duel Disk, so the dragon itself weighs nothing. Only in the ancient Egypt story arc is it a living thing: the ka spirit of Kisara, which ends up with the priest Seto, Kaiba’s past self.
Kaiba is obsessed with it. He owns three of the four copies in the story, after tearing up Yugi’s grandfather’s, and he puts the dragon on everything he owns, including a private jet shaped like Blue-Eyes. In the anime the jet seats two, has four afterburning engines and can take off vertically.
Even at 10 tonnes, a real Blue-Eyes could not fly on its wings. Quetzalcoatlus, the largest animal known to have flown, weighed about 200 to 250 kg, so our dragon is 40 to 50 times heavier.
The real card
The card came out in Japan in March 1999 in the first Starter Box, and in English on March 8, 2002, as the first card of Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon. A 1st Edition copy from that set in Gem Mint condition sold for $85,000 in 2021, according to CGC.
The wildest number came from China in June 2021: a court auction of a Blue-Eyes card owned by a jailed embezzler reached bids of 87 million yuan (about $13 million) before it was suspended over suspected malicious bidding. Cards of that limited edition usually sell for 200,000 to 300,000 yuan.
How much does the Blue-Eyes White Dragon weigh in pounds?
About 22,000 lb by our estimate, or 10 tonnes. Depending on how big and bulky you picture it, it could be anywhere from about 3,500 lb to over 80,000 lb.
How big is the Blue-Eyes White Dragon?
No official size exists, and the anime is not consistent. In most duels it stands several storeys taller than Kaiba, which is why we read it as about 20 m from snout to tail.
Is there an official weight for the Blue-Eyes White Dragon?
No. Konami’s card gives it Level 8, 3000 ATK and 2500 DEF, which are game stats, not a weight. Every number on this page is our own estimate.
How much does a Blue-Eyes White Dragon card weigh?
Roughly 1.6 g, about 0.06 oz, by our reckoning. A normal Pokémon card weighs about 1.7 to 1.8 g, and a Yu-Gi-Oh card is a little smaller, at 59 × 86 mm. So the paper dragon is about six million times lighter than our estimate for the real one.
What is the most a Blue-Eyes White Dragon card has sold for?
A Gem Mint 1st Edition card from Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon sold for $85,000 in 2021. A Chinese court auction in 2021 reached bids of about $13 million, but it was suspended and never completed.
