40 kg88.2 lb
A Fortnite Loot Llama weighs about 40 kg (88 lb) by our estimate. Epic has never given it an official weight. A hollow paper piñata the size of a real llama would be about 10 kg, and the ammo, healing items and building materials inside add roughly 30 kg. Packed solid with loot, it could pass 250 kg.

Fortnite never weighs its llamas, so this is our estimate. In Battle Royale the official name is the Supply Llama, and the game’s lore calls it a sentient piñata. We assumed it is about the size of a real llama, which stands 1.7 to 1.8 m at the head. A shop-bought paper llama piñata 53 cm tall ships at 0.34 kg. Scale it up 3.3 times in height and the paper surface grows about 11 times, to under 4 kg. A piñata that big needs thicker card and a frame to hold its shape, so we put the empty shell at about 10 kg.
Then the loot. A searched Supply Llama drops 130 rounds of ammo: 54 light, 46 medium, 18 heavy and 12 shells. Real rifle cartridges weigh about 12 g each, a 7.62 mm NATO round 25 g, and shotgun shells more, so that is around 2 kg. Five bandages, a med kit, four shield potions and three Gold Splashes add maybe 3 kg more. Add a modest bundle of wood, stone and metal, say 25 kg, and the total comes to about 40 kg.
As a sanity check, a real pack llama can carry 25 to 30% of its body weight. For a 130 to 200 kg llama, that is 33 to 60 kg, so a real llama could carry a Loot Llama on its back.
Today a Supply Llama drops 350 each of wood, stone and metal. Every wall, floor or ramp in Fortnite costs 10 materials, so that is enough for 105 structures, each one several metres across. Real walls that size would weigh many tonnes, far more than any llama could hold. The game’s materials are abstract, which is why we only counted a token load.
For an upper bound, imagine the llama filled to the brim. A real llama is about 150 litres of body. Split that into equal parts wood (half as dense as water), stone (about 2.6 times) and steel (nearly 8 times) and you get roughly 550 kg of solid material. Loose logs, rocks and scrap leave plenty of gaps, so call it half that: about 290 kg with the shell, heavier than a real llama.
The low end is Zero Build, where llamas drop no materials at all. Shell, ammo and healing items come to about 15 kg (33 lb).
Llamas started as the loot boxes of Save the World, Fortnite’s original co-op mode, where you smash a piñata to get weapons, heroes and survivors. The Weapon Llama’s own description jokes that its contents are as heavy as a sack of broken glass. The Supply Llama arrived in Battle Royale in Season 3 (2018) as a rare container, with up to five per match.
In Chapter 2: Season 7 it became an animal that runs away from players, drops ammo as it flees and can take fall damage. It went back to being a container in Chapter 4: Season OG. Real ones have turned up too: llamas appeared in London, Cologne and Barcelona in 2018, and for the launch of LEGO Fortnite in 2023, brick-built Supply Llamas weighing 1,019 kg each went on show in London, New York, Sydney and Tokyo.
About 88 pounds by our estimate. That is a 22 lb paper shell plus around 66 lb of ammo, healing items and building materials.
No. Epic has never published a weight for the Supply Llama or the Save the World llama piñatas. Every number on this page is our own estimate.
No, unless it is crammed full. A real adult llama weighs 130 to 200 kg (about 290 to 440 lb), so roughly four times our estimate. Only a llama stuffed solid with wood, stone and metal would outweigh one.
In Battle Royale its official name is Supply Llama. Loot Llama is the nickname players and the press use, and in Save the World the loot boxes are simply called llamas or llama piñatas.
Each of the four giant displays built for the LEGO Fortnite launch weighs 1,019 kg (about 2,250 lb). They stand 12 ft (3.7 m) tall and use 234,623 bricks.
