Pac-Man weighs about 20 kg (44 lb) by our estimate. Bandai Namco has never given him an official weight or height. We pictured him as a ball as wide as a 35 cm (14 in) pizza, as dense as water, with one pizza slice missing for his mouth, which works out to just under 20 kg.

Where the 20 kg comes from
There is no official number to start from. We found no height or weight for Pac-Man in any Bandai Namco profile or game, and the fan wikis that collect these details do not list one either. The weight of 95 he has in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a game value that sets how far he flies when hit, not kilograms or pounds.
So we did the maths on his shape. His creator says Pac-Man began as a pizza with a slice taken out, so we made him as wide as a large 35 cm (14 in) pizza. A ball that wide has a radius of 17.5 cm, and its volume is 4/3 × π × 17.5³, about 22,400 cm³ or 22.4 litres. At the density of water (a living body is close to that), that is 22.4 kg. A pizza is usually cut into eight slices, so taking one eighth away for the mouth leaves 22.4 × 7/8 = 19.6 kg, which we round to 20 kg.
Both the size and the density are our own choices, and weight grows with the cube of width: a ball 10% wider weighs a third more. A 30 cm Pac-Man would come to about 12 kg and a 40 cm one to about 29 kg. His arms, legs, gloves and boots in the 3D games would add a little, but not much next to the ball.
The pizza with a slice missing
Toru Iwatani, who created Pac-Man at Namco in 1980, has said the idea came from a pizza with one slice removed, which he pictured as an animated pizza eating its way through a maze. In a 1986 interview he also said the shape came from rounding off 口 (kuchi), the Japanese character for mouth. The name comes from paku-paku, the Japanese sound for gobbling food.
In the arcade game he is just a flat yellow disc. Later games, such as Pac-Man World (1999), turned him into a round body with arms and legs, which is the version our ball is based on.
Weight in Smash Bros. and Mario Kart
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Pac-Man’s weight value is 95, right around the average for the 89-fighter cast. That makes him a middleweight, tied for roughly 44th heaviest. He is also floaty for his class, with the 11th-lowest gravity in the game. Mario, for comparison, is 98.
Mario Kart Arcade GP DX, where he is a guest racer, puts him in the middleweight class too, with average stats and no clear strength or weakness.
About 44 lb by our estimate (19.6 kg). With his mouth closed, the same ball would be about 49 lb. There is no official figure.
Does Pac-Man have an official weight or height?
No. Bandai Namco has never published either. His Smash Bros. weight of 95 is a knockback value, not a real weight, so any number in kilograms or pounds, including ours, is an estimate.
How big is Pac-Man?
The games never say. Our estimate makes him 35 cm (14 in) across, the width of a large pizza, as a nod to the pizza that inspired him. Every size choice changes the weight a lot, because a ball’s volume grows with the cube of its width.
Is Pac-Man heavier than Mario?
No. Mario is about 70 kg, from a 1986 anime film chart, against our 20 kg for Pac-Man. In Smash Bros. Ultimate they are close: Mario’s weight value is 98 and Pac-Man’s is 95.
What was Pac-Man based on?
A pizza with a slice missing, according to his creator Toru Iwatani. He has also said the shape came from rounding off the Japanese character for mouth, 口 (kuchi).
