Rock Lee’s leg weights weigh about 80 kg (176 lb) for the pair by our estimate, using the fan figure of 40 kg (88 lb) per weight. Naruto never gives an official number, not in the manga, the anime or the databooks. Fan calculations based on the craters they leave when dropped land far higher, at tonnes or more.

Where the 80 kg comes from
There is no canon weight. Masashi Kishimoto never wrote one into the manga, and the official databooks list Lee’s own height and weight but nothing for his weights. The 40 kg (88 lb) per weight figure is repeated on Q&A sites and in short videos without any source behind it. We use it because it is the most common modest figure: two weights make 80 kg (176 lb).
What canon does show is the scene. In chapter 82 of the manga, “Lee’s Secret!!” (volume 10), and episode 48 of the anime, Lee cannot get through Gaara’s Shield of Sand in the Chūnin Exam preliminaries. Might Guy tells him to take them off. The onlookers doubt it will make much difference, until the weights hit the floor and leave large craters. With them gone, Lee is fast enough to land the first hit anyone has ever landed on Gaara.
The databooks put Lee at 46.6 to 47.5 kg (103 to 105 lb) in Part I, when he was 13. So even our modest 80 kg means a boy carrying about 1.7 times his own body weight on his shins, all day, including while fighting.
Why fan calculations go into tonnes
The craters are the problem. A 40 kg weight dropped from 10 m carries 40 × 9.81 × 10 = about 3,900 joules of energy. A sci-fi anime blog on note.com reckons a crater that size needs around 2,000,000 joules, roughly a stick of dynamite, and works backwards: 2,000,000 ÷ (9.8 × 10) = about 20,400 kg per weight.
A VS Battles fan blog measured the crater against the arena at about 4.9 × 2.3 × 0.5 m, priced the broken concrete at about 31 million joules, and took a fall of about 14.6 m. That gives roughly 252 tonnes per weight. It also cites an earlier Reddit calculation of almost ten tonnes for the pair. Every one of these numbers depends on reading heights and crater sizes off drawings and anime frames.
The other side of the argument is size. Lee’s weights are bands around his lower legs, not blocks. 40 kg of lead takes up about 3.5 liters, and even osmium, the densest metal, needs about 1.8 liters. One fan on the Naruto Wiki argues the bands could not hold more than about 30 kg each of any real material.
The weights elsewhere in Naruto
The weights carry the kanji 根性 (konjō), meaning “guts”. In the first Ultimate Ninja games they are an item called Weight of Gut that you throw at an opponent to slow them down. In the anime’s Land of Tea filler arc, the runner Idate Morino trains with heavy ankle weights the same way and outruns Team 7 once he takes them off.
Naruto the Movie: Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom turns them into heavy bars that Lee joins together as nunchaku, a bō staff and a chain to fight Kongō. None of these appearances gives a weight either.
Naruto never says. The common fan figure is 40 kg (88 lb) each, 80 kg (176 lb) for the pair, which is the number we use. Calculations based on the craters they make go much higher, from a few tonnes to hundreds of tonnes.
How many pounds are Rock Lee’s weights?
Using the fan figure, about 88 lb each and 176 lb for the pair. This is an estimate, not an official number.
What episode does Rock Lee take off his weights?
Episode 48 of the original Naruto anime, “Gaara vs. Rock Lee: The Power of Youth Explodes!”, first aired in Japan on September 3, 2003. In the manga it happens in chapter 82, “Lee’s Secret!!”.
What is written on Rock Lee’s weights?
The kanji 根性 (konjō), which means “guts”.
How much does Rock Lee weigh?
