Gamabunta weighs about 3,000 tonnes (roughly 6.6 million lb) by our estimate. The official Naruto databooks list the toad boss at 17 m tall but give no weight. We scaled a plump wild cane toad up about 300 times, to a body 28 m long that sits 17 m tall, which multiplies its weight by 27 million.
Our estimateA plump wild cane toad (93.5 mm, 114 g) scaled up about 300 times, to 28 m long

Built like a lean toadA dry-season cane toad (89 mm, 70 g) scaled to the same 28 m body

Where the 3,000 tonnes comes from
The only official number is the height: the Naruto databooks list Gamabunta at 17 m (about 56 ft), and his profile has no weight. So we started from real toads. A study of wild cane toads in tropical Australia measured them at about 9 cm from snout to rump. In the wet season they averaged 93.5 mm and 114 g; in the dry season, 89 mm and 70 g.
Toads sit with the body sloping up from rump to head, so they are longer than they are tall. We read the 17 m as Gamabunta’s height sitting up and gave him a body about 28 m long. That is our assumption, not an official figure. 28 m is about 300 times a 93.5 mm toad, and weight grows with the cube of size: 300 × 300 × 300 is 27 million. Multiply by 114 g and you get roughly 3,100 tonnes, which we round to 3,000 tonnes.
Animals are roughly as dense as water, so that is a body of about 3,000 cubic metres. A leaner toad gives about 2,200 t. If the 17 m were his full length instead of his height, the plump toad would only scale up about 180 times, and he would weigh around 690 tonnes.
How big he is in the story
Gamabunta is drawn at very different sizes. In Part I he towers over forests and is a fair match in size for Shukaku, Gaara’s sand tanuki. In Part II he is sometimes that big and sometimes no bigger than a large building like the Academy. The databook’s 17 m is the one fixed point.
His weight is part of how he fights. When Minato summons him on top of the Nine-Tails during the attack on Konoha, he uses his mass to pin the fox down, though he warns he can’t hold it for long. Next to Kurama he is still small: only about the size of the fox’s torso. We estimate Kurama at about 94,000 tonnes, around 30 times heavier.
His sword, pipe and vest
Gamabunta always carries a dosu, a short yakuza-style sword, at his hip, smokes a long kiseru pipe and often wears a blue happi vest. Our 3,000 tonnes is the toad alone. No source gives their sizes, but they barely matter: a steel blade 10 m long, 1 m wide and 10 cm thick on average would weigh about 8 tonnes, under 0.3% of his weight.
The sword is still big enough for a human to use as a spear. In the battle of the three Sannin, Tsunade drives it through Manda’s mouth while Gamabunta holds the snake’s tail.
About 6.6 million pounds (3,000 tonnes), by our estimate. That is a wild cane toad scaled up to a body 28 m long and 17 m tall.
How tall is Gamabunta?
The official databooks put him at 17 m, or about 56 ft. In the manga and anime he is drawn bigger or smaller from scene to scene, from towering over forests to roughly the size of a large building.
Is there an official weight for Gamabunta?
No. The databooks give his height but no weight. Any number you see, including ours, is an estimate.
Who is heavier, Gamabunta or Kurama?
Kurama, by far. Gamabunta is only about as big as the Nine-Tails’ torso, and we estimate Kurama at about 94,000 tonnes, roughly 30 times Gamabunta’s 3,000.
How does Gamabunta compare with the biggest real toad?
The heaviest toads on record are cane toads of about 2.7 kg: Toadzilla, found in Queensland in 2023, and Prinsen, a toad kept in Sweden that Guinness lists at 2.65 kg. Gamabunta would be over a million times heavier.
