A typical road motorcycle weighs about 200 kg (441 lb) with a full tank, oil and coolant. That is our estimate, based on popular sport and road bikes, which mostly weigh 180 to 240 kg. A small 125 cc bike can be close to 100 kg, while big touring bikes weigh 380 to 416 kg (838 to 917 lb).

Where the 200 kg figure comes from
There is no single standard motorbike, so 200 kg is our estimate for an ordinary road bike, ready to ride. It sits in the middle of the manufacturers’ own figures for popular bikes: Yamaha lists the 2025 MT-07 at 403 lb (183 kg) wet, Honda lists the 2025 CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP at 445 lb (202 kg) ready to ride, and BMW’s R 1300 GS adventure bike weighs 237 kg (522 lb) road ready.
The average of those three is about 207 kg, so 200 kg is a fair round number. Sport bikes and middleweight naked bikes cluster around 180 to 210 kg, while adventure bikes, with bigger tanks and longer suspension, are a little heavier.
Wet weight, dry weight and fuel
The weights above are wet weights, also called curb or kerb weights. Honda and Yamaha define them as the bike with all standard equipment, all fluids and a full tank of fuel. The rider is not included.
Some brands quote a dry weight instead, which leaves out fuel and sometimes oil, coolant or the battery. There is no standard way to measure dry weight, so it always makes a bike look lighter than it really is on the road. Fuel alone is a big part of the gap: the Fireblade SP holds 4.4 US gallons (16.7 L), and at about 0.74 kg per litre that is roughly 12 kg (27 lb) of petrol.
The heaviest and lightest motorbikes
Big touring bikes carry large engines, fairings, luggage and electronics, and they weigh about twice as much as a sport bike. Harley-Davidson lists the 2026 Road Glide at 838 lb (380 kg) in running order and the 2024 Ultra Limited at 917 lb (416 kg). Honda UK gives the 2026 Gold Wing DCT a kerb weight of 373 kg (822 lb) and the fuller Gold Wing Tour DCT 393 kg (866 lb).
Three-wheelers go further still. Harley-Davidson’s 2024 Tri Glide Ultra trike weighs 1,237 lb (561 kg) in running order, though it is no longer a two-wheeled motorbike.
At the other end, small bikes are much lighter. Honda’s 2025 Grom, with a 123.9 cc single-cylinder engine and a 1.6 gallon (6.1 L) tank, weighs 224 lb (102 kg) ready to ride, about half a typical road bike.
A typical road motorcycle weighs about 441 lb (200 kg) with fuel. Most popular sport and road bikes fall between about 400 and 520 lb, while big touring bikes weigh 840 to 920 lb.
What is the difference between wet weight and dry weight?
Wet weight is the bike ready to ride, with all fluids and a full tank of fuel. Dry weight leaves out fuel and some or all of the other fluids, and there is no standard for it, so it is always lower and harder to compare between brands.
How much does a Harley-Davidson weigh?
Harley’s touring bikes are among the heaviest motorbikes sold. The 2026 Road Glide weighs 838 lb (380 kg) in running order, and the 2024 Ultra Limited weighs 917 lb (416 kg).
How much does a Honda Gold Wing weigh?
Honda UK lists the 2026 Gold Wing DCT at 373 kg (822 lb) and the Gold Wing Tour DCT at 393 kg (866 lb), both with fuel and fluids.
