A Rocket League Octane weighs about 180 kg (397 lb) by our estimate. Psyonix never gave a weight in kilograms, but the game’s physics engine gives every car a mass of 180 and the ball 30, in unnamed units. Reading those as kilograms fits a car whose hitbox is only about 1.18 m long.
There is no official weight for the Octane. What exists is the mass the physics engine uses. The values players have measured and pulled from the game, collected on the RLBot wiki for people who write bots, give the car a mass of 180.0 and the ball 30.0, with the note that the unit is arbitrary. RocketSim, an open-source copy of the game’s physics, writes the ball’s mass as the car’s mass divided by 6.
So the one hard fact is the ratio: a car is 6 times as heavy as the ball. The 180 kg on this page is our reading of the bare number as kilograms. It is an estimate, not something Psyonix has said.
The same mass appears to apply to every body, not just the Octane. The RLBot wiki lists one car mass, and RocketSim uses a single constant for all hitbox types, with a comment that it might differ per car but no per-car values.
Why 180 kg is a reasonable reading
Distances in the game are in Unreal units, and the community treats 1 uu as 1 cm. The RLBot wiki gives the check that 2,778 uu/s is 100 km/h. On that scale the Octane hitbox measures 118.0 by 84.2 by 36.2 uu, so about 1.18 m long, 0.84 m wide and 0.36 m tall. RocketSim’s own fitted values are a little larger, 120.5 by 86.7 by 38.7 uu, but still around 1.2 m long.
That box has a volume of 1.18 × 0.842 × 0.362 = about 0.36 m³. At 180 kg that works out to roughly 500 kg/m³, about half the density of water. A car the size of a go-kart weighing as much as two or three adults is not a stretch.
The other gameplay numbers fit the same scale. Boost on the ground adds 991.666 uu/s², which is 9.9 m/s², almost exactly 1 g. Gravity is 650 uu/s², or 6.5 m/s², about two-thirds of Earth’s. Top speed is 2,300 uu/s, or about 83 km/h. With a 180 kg car, that boost would need a push of about 180 × 9.92 = 1,785 N.
Other ways people have estimated it
Undergraduate physicists at the University of Leicester have looked at Rocket League cars twice. One 2023 paper timed in-game movement to measure the licensed Porsche 911 at 1.62 m long, then scaled the real car’s density down to that size and got 75.2 kg. A 2025 paper on the boost simply used the real BMW M240i’s 1,765 kg and found the thrust would have to be 17.76 kN.
Those two results show how much the answer depends on what you assume. Reading the game’s own mass value as kilograms, as we do, lands in between and is the only one that uses a number from the game itself.
How much does a Rocket League car weigh in pounds?
About 397 lb, if you read the game’s car mass of 180 as kilograms. Psyonix has never given an official weight.
Do all Rocket League cars weigh the same?
As far as anyone has found, yes. Community references list a single car mass of 180, and the Octane, Dominus, Plank, Breakout, Hybrid and Merc bodies differ only in hitbox shape and handling.
How heavy is the Rocket League ball?
Its physics mass is 30, exactly one sixth of a car. Read as kilograms that is 30 kg (66 lb), for a ball about 1.8 m across.
How big is the Octane in real life units?
Its hitbox is about 118 by 84 by 36 Unreal units. Since 1 uu is treated as 1 cm, that is roughly 1.18 m long, 0.84 m wide and 0.36 m tall.
